Hello, my name is Nico.
I created this blog to share my accumulated knowledge of ventilation and indoor climate for as many people as possible. At the same time I try to use the articles subjects to learn more every time I write something.

In my day job I work at Sweco Finland as an HVAC team manager. This is where most of my subjects come from and also where I get most of the information.

This little blog of mine can be roughly divided in two categories.

I write posts that are aimed for everyone, regardless of how much you might already know (GenPub). But I also write posts aimed for the professionals (Pro), who already have a deeper understanding about the equipment and ventilation systems.

So if there’s something you can’t fully understand right away but would like a more detailed explanation, please let me know. I’d be happy to try and expand on the subjects.

I also write in both Finnish and English. English being the primary language in the blog. There are perhaps some topics that are more tailored towards the Finnish audience but I’ll always try to at least summarize the Finnish topics in English as well.

I think someone could say that my journey in HVAC1 started from a very young age. My dad, uncle and grandfather were all working as plumbers when I was growing up. So I spent a lot of time playing with pipes and getting to know all aspects of the profession. Later on my dad continued his studies and now works as an HVAC team manager as well.

I never went to vocational school myself to study as a plumber but went straight to university. I didn’t realize it at the time but my universitys assigned class teacher had a big role on my future career. Said teacher was Esa Sandberg who is a very well known ventilation expert. In fact he’s written two books that Finnish universities use today to teach new ventilation engineers. Esa managed to spark an interest towards ventilation and I’m still on that path.

During my time as an exchange student from the university I lived in South Korea. I fell in love with Seoul during my time there and it’s still the only city I’d visit over and over again. A few years after that I moved to Norway for a year and a half to work on oilrig engineering. Now I’ve lived in Tampere Finland for about 10 years and continue to learn more almost every day.

  1. In Finnish it’s not really HVAC. We only use HPV (Heating Piping and Ventilation), but in this blog I’ll use HVAC. ↩︎
